The next time you need a thumbscrew for a project and you don't have any in stock, don't saddle-up "Ole Paint" and head for the store.

Instead, look in your scrap bin for a spur or pinion gear from an old clock or other mechanical gizmo.

Find one with the right diameter center hole and either epoxy or solder a bolt of the appropriate size into position, run a jam nut up from the bottom to hold everything together more tightly and you've got your thumbscrew ! No trip to the hardware store. No financial outlay.

What more could you ask ?
