Tip #248
Warp-free laminated surfaces

When applying laminates to large, unsupported horizontal panels such as countertops, here are two very important points that you won't want to forget:

First, kitchen base cabinets with countertops that surround and support sinks can be damp inside. And more importantly, variations in the levels of dampness absorbed by the laminated versus non-laminated surfaces can and will cause warpage over time.

Second, to help prevent this warpage, laminate the underside and back edges of these countertops, as well as their top surfaces. You can, of course, use less costly, plain patterns (or even remnants) for this application, since these surfaces will not be visible.
