Mar-free marking of softwoods

Using a hard-tipped pencil or pen to mark the surfaces or edges of extremely soft woods such as redwood, cedar or similar coniferous species can result in marks that can only be removed by sanding them away.

To avoid this problem, do your marking with white blackboard chalk or colored sidewalk chalk.

Just use your disc sander to create a sharp point and have at it. When you're done, simply wash it away with a dampened cloth.
