Scuff sanding between finish coats is often a requirement for seeing to it that your finish doesn't peel off.
So, how do you choose the best grit sandpaper for the job? Too coarse a grit will leave scuff marks. Too fine a grit will just "load-up" and quit working fast.
The best choice…start with two sheets of 120 to 150-grit open coat garnet (or aluminum oxide) abrasive paper…then rub the two sheets together several times to wear down the grit prior to use.
This technique will help you avoid creating scuff marks on your project…and will not leave dirt or other contaminants that you'd find in used abrasive papers.
