Instructions
1.
Cut the seven table top slats (A) to size according to
the List of Materials.
2.
Cut the side rail (B) to size. Cut the miter joints for the
corners by tilting the table to 45-degrees. The grooves for
the splines (D) can be cut by setting the table at 45-degrees
and varying the blade height.
3.
Dry assemble and clamp the side rails (B) -- use extra care
to maintain squareness. Clamp, glue, and insert splines (D)
once you're assured of proper fit.
4.
Cut the legs (C) to size. Next, use a dado blade to cut the
half lap joint on the top.
5.
Clamp the legs (C) to the side rails (B), drill, glue,
and dowel. Use extra care to maintain squareness.
6.
Clamp, glue, and dowel the top slats (A) to the side rails
(B). Use a 1/2-inch spacer block to keep the slats parallel
and the spacing uniform.
7.
Although outdoor woods need no additional finish, spar varnish
or an exterior polyurethane are suitable and attractive for
natural finishes. The finish we used was C.W.F. (Clear Wood
Finish).
