Like many
woodworkers, you might be reluctant to attempt a furniture
building project because you consider drawer construction
intimidating. But once the case is built, you can easily obtain
smooth-working, attractive drawer construction in an orderly,
step-by-step process.
One of
the most common drawers you can build is a lip drawer. A lip
drawer fits partially within the drawer opening, and has a
lip around the edge which overlaps the face frame.
TIP:
A logical, accurate, and timesaving way to make drawers is
by 'grouping' parts. Make all drawer fronts at one time, all
side pieces, and then the bottoms. Since all joints are cut
to fit, this kind of planning and stock preparation takes
less time and reduces waste.
Use the
following techniques to construct lip drawers.
