Band Saw Sculpture
The cabriole leg is made with two sets of cuts, one a mirror image of the other. If you make two sets of cuts that are totally different from each other, you can end up with some fantastic sculptures--animals, people, abastract shapes.

To sculpt with your band saw, you have to develop two patterns. Say you want to cut out an animal; imagine what that animal looks like from the front and draw the outline. Next, imagine what it looks like from the side (or in some cases, the top) and draw that outline. Take care to make each of your drawings exactly the same scale. Use these two outlines as patterns for making a series of compound band saw cuts. Once again, make your first piece out of scrap stock to see if your patterns give you what you want.
