  1. Depending on the angle of the burnish, scraper must either be held flatter or more upright to produce shavings instead of dust.
  2. A dull or unevenly burnished edge will also make dust instead of shavings.
  3. After scraping machine marks, wood blemishes, etc., scrape to the sides, front and back of this area to avoid creating "dips." Note: Hand Scrapers (properly sharpened) will leave a smoother surface than 220-grit sandpaper.
